Designasaw

A brief audit

About

This is a brief audit and insight into Designasaw and Jacqueline Elizabeth Hill.

Designasaw is my creative practice. And this site is not just about my professional creative life but also includes my photography, drawings and image making, which has always occupies my waking and dreaming life.

The creative design practice known as Designasaw came into being some time between 1996 – 2000, evolving out of my initial design studio Allsorts Design (1983 – 2000), which was located in Sydney, Australia. Allsorts Design, a small but very productive studio, specialised in publication design, visual and corporate identity development and rollout, and packaging design. It built a list of blue chip clients such as Kelloggs, Unilever, EPA, and Dulux among others.

Allsorts Design closed its door when I moved to Crete, Greece, because life is too short and adventure is necessary. I bought an old village house in a 13th century village on the side of a mountain which I lived in for five years full time. It was a challenging and worthwhile experiences. But being lost in the wilds of the Med did not stop my creative practice, which continued with a list of clients such as British Sky Broadcasting and a string of Greek resorts and architecture firms keeping me busy.

After four decades plus of working as a graphic designer, art director and tertiary educator, both in Australia and Europe, I can describe myself and my practice’s end product as wholistic, colourful, comprehensive and constantly evolving.  I have developed design theories involving visual communication and graphic design within the discipline of semiotics, as well as approaches to effective design education for tertiary level degrees.

For the past couple of years academic research in relation to semiotics, drawing and developing animations has captured my time and imagination as well as presenting and publishing ideas and papers at numerous semiotic conferences in Europe.
